PAOLO ROMAGNOLI

Born in Venice in 1949. Ph. D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Milan, Italy and Business Administration from the Bocconi University of Milan. A 4 weeks stage in the University of California – Berkley in the summer 1978. From 1974 to 1988 in Recordati, a medium size chemical and pharmaceutical manufacturing company. Different jobs mainly in the fine chemical division starting from organic synthesis process development up to marketing and business development director of the chemical division. From 1988 independent consultant specialized in the pharmaceutical fine chemicals and related businesses, covering almost all aspects of management, including strategic planning, business development, company assessments, market research, R & D plans, recruiting, mergers and acquisitions, contract manufacturing, sourcing and outsourcing. Clients have been 73 companies, mainly located in Europe and North America, including manufacturers, distributors, Contract Research Organizations, business intelligence and consulting companies, with contracts ranging from few days up to more than ten years. Active member, chairman and vice-chairman of international trade and industry associations like Aschimfarma (Federchimica - Italy), EGA (European Generic medicines Association), IGPA (International Generic Pharmaceutical Alliance), CPA (Italy), he was also co-founder of CPHI, the largest and most important trade exhibition for pharmaceutical fine chemicals. Speaker in many international conferences, seminars, conventions and academic lectures. Member of the ICH (International Conference for Harmonization) Experts Working Group for GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) Guidelines for Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients which became the worldwide recognized standard for the Industry and the supervising authorities. Awarded with the Food and Drug Administration's Commissioner's Special Citation. Author of the book “Business Development in GMP Fine Chemicals”, a well known reference handbook for this specific industry. Since November 2003 also managing the Fine Chemical Business Unit of the Angelini Group, with two manufacturing sites in Italy and Spain. From November 2006 back in the consulting business as president of Romagnoli Consulting.
